There’s a story that Steve McQueen’s wife, Barbara, likes to tell about him. She recalls that McQueen was the kind of person that if you were planning to meet him for lunch one day, you would be wise to pack an overnight bag as he was the kind of guy to jump into a car and turn a simple lunch into a two-day road trip.
Austin Butler likes that story. He may not have the exact same devil-may-care impulses of McQueen but there is an unmistakable flash of understanding behind his eyes as he retells it. “I’m a big fan of Steve McQueen,” the Hollywood A-lister clarifies, somewhat needlessly. “What was so cool about him was not just his style, but the way he lived his life. So free to do what he wanted to do.”

It’s a very Steve McQueen way of doing things, or, perhaps from now on, we should be saying, it’s very Austin Butler.
